5 things I think you should know today.

[Each week I’ll share some promises that are persevering me.  You can see past promises here.]

I like promises because they’re written down.  They’re like a map to help you always find your way.  Even when the world is upside down, through promises you can still see all that’s true.

We’re so accustomed to letting our senses tell us what’s real.  We ‘know’ in our heads that God is ‘for‘ us, and ‘with‘ us, but then bumpy days come and it just doesn’t seem like He is.  So, instead of doubting our perception, we doubt Him.

Today, everything may be going okay for you.  Today, you may not care about these promises.

Today you may be blessed to find yourself having the kind of day where you know these promises are true because you feel them to be true.

Here’s what I want you to think about: will you still trust these promises on the days when they don’t feel real?

Days are coming when life conspires to convince you that God doesn’t love you and that He isn’t in it for you.  Days are coming when what you believe about these promises will spill out of your heart whether you feel prepared or not.

Meditate on them now.  Pray for faith to blossom in your heart.

There’s nothing more glorious than faith in moments when promises don’t seem true.  There’s nothing so beautiful as a heart that believes in spite of all the obstacles.

How do you get that faith?  Our first promise tells us:

1. Promise that God will give faith through His word.

Romans 10: 17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

2. Promise that you’ll be loved by God and that He will show up.

John 14:21 “…he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to Him.”

3. Promise that your trials aren’t in vain.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 “For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.”

4. Promise that He won’t ever leave you. I love this promise.  Mainly because it has an application built in for us.  If you want to know why you’re discontent, if you want to know why you covet and love money, this verse tells you the answer: you don’t believe God is never going to leave you.  You don’t believe He’s enough.

Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

5. Promise that God cares about my hurting heart. If you’ve been following the saga of my life you know that this one is critical to me right now.  I’m learning a ton about how God is responding to my current pain.

I wrote yesterday about my certainty that God is standing beside me with patience and grace through my pain.  I don’t think that because I ‘feel’ like that’s what’s happening.  I know that because He wrote it down for me in His Word.  Thanks be to God for truth that is not subjective.

Psalm 56:8 “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?”

Hey.  Stop.  Just stop what you’re doing for a second and put your head on your desk and take a breath and just imagine that you believe that promise.

Imagine that you believe there’s a God in Heaven who is high above the world, who upholds every atom by the power of His word.  And imagine that you believe this same omnipotent God is a loving Father who has kept track of every tear you’ve ever cried.

Neat, huh?

  1. A big problem I face is believing and trusting God’s word. You touch on that here and it’s refreshing to see you believe God is speaking to you directly from his word. God bless.
