I recently got the privilege to be a part of creating a beautiful Advent Devotional with my church. There are a few extra days that we didn’t include in the guide that I thought I’d share. Grab some time each day this next week and process these things prayerfully with God and with your family and community!
Looking backward & looking forward.
In Deuteronomy 3, God encourages the people to “remember the days of old” and to “consider the years of many generations.” And in Proverbs 14:8 God tells us that a wise man looks ahead.
While the world throws off this past year as they look ahead, the people of God remember and recall the faithfulness of God. And while the world makes new year’s resolutions, we prayerfully consider what is ahead, asking God to give us intentional direction for the coming year.
Take some time for the next six days to look backwards and praise God & look forward and pray to God.
What are the means God has used this past year to help you increase your enjoyment of Him? What is one thing you can do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
What miracles – humanly impossible things – have you seen God do this past year? What is one miracle you want to ask Him to do in this coming year?
What spiritual discipline has God shown you the value of this past year? What spiritual discipline do you want to grow in this coming year?

What is one fruit of the Spirit you have seen God birthed in you this past year? What is one fruit of the Spirit you want to pray for HIm bear in you this year?

What has your time in the Word looked like this year? What is one thing you want to do in this year to grow in your dependence on God’s Word?
