I know, I know. That subtitle is unfair.

Honestly, it has got to be ME who is the problem. My TikTok algorithm thinks I want Mark Driscoll content, and it’s getting that from somewhere. Probably because when it pops up I cannot RESIST.

What is that sensation that makes us watch content we HATE? It’s like picking at a scab. In fact, I would theorize it’s the exact same feeling: a deep satisfaction that comes from looking at something sort of disgusting and sort of intriguing and sort of painful.

Anyway, I digress.

The subtitle is unfair because Mark Driscoll is not really the problem. He’s just a personification of the problem.

The problem is all these double binds for singles in the church. (Also - not just singles. This happens for a million demographics in a million ways, and maybe I should do a post on ways it happens for other demos?). But, anyway, I digress. again.

A few weeks ago a Mark D. TikTok popped up: it was him preaching on a Sunday and he was preaching to single people: “The world** has sold you a lie that there is something wrong with you because you are single! And you are believing lies if you think that! You are blessed and a whole person in Christ… “ blah blah blah.

[I tried to find this post but I could NOT find it. But I promise I saw it.]

In the moment I was like: THE WORLD??? The world has done that???
