🤔 A thought I’m processing [on journaling]
Obvi, we’ve all read Artist’s Way here (rigggghhhtt??) so you all know about morning pages. If you’ve done morning pages, you know they can be helpful. But - even though I know that - I haven’t stuck with them as I would like.
Recently, I’ve been reading a book by a professor at UT and it breaks down the research around how and why writing helps our brains to process and heal. It unpacks which journaling methods are best and what we can expect to experience when we journal frequently. (All evidence-based. My love language.)
Guuuuyyss. Writing is really good for us!!!
This has me journaling again. :) (And also leading a cohort at my church where we’ll dive into journaling together! It’s virtual! Join us!)
💕 A thought I’m loving [on emotional safety]
I think a lot about what attachment styles teach us about God. I’ve been wanting to write more about it, but this post beat me to the punch (scroll through the carousel)
Is your relationship with God marked by “trust, comfort & a sense of safety”? Or is it marked by “anxiety, distrust, and instability.”
In my time in the church, I’ve seen avoidant attachment with God (e.g. people who have a hard time feeling emotionally vulnerable or dependent on God). Or anxiously attached (e.g. overly dependent and unable to feel their agency).
These dynamics make sense. We all have our tendencies. What’s odd to me is that people sometimes seem to confuse anxious attachment with “faith. ”
But secure attachment provides us with a safe place to come back to and while also increasing our sense of resiliency, wisdom, and ability. I think this is true with God as well. 🤷
🗳️ A poll on [what is most important to you in a church]
So curious about what people look for in a church these days.
